Welcome to SCOPE
SCOPE-Senior Citizen’s Opportunity for Personal Endeavor, has been innovative
and has taken risks for 50 years for our seniors in Trumbull County.
Since the 1990’s SCOPE has expanded to six senior centers: Champion, Cortland,
Lordstown, Howland , Niles, Warren.
We work with
hundreds of different groups: governments, hospitals, Adult Protective Services,
Jobs and Family Services placement program, Title V- the Mature Worker program
of the US Dept. of Labor, other charities such as Catholic Charities and
Salvation Army.
We Are Family
The centers really provide new
opportunities for making friends, learning new skills, and finding a new
family. Staff report that members find such relief to loneliness and isolation
that they say, “SCOPE saved my life.”
SCOPE truly provides the support of a
family throughout the continuum of later life. Members range from 50 years old
through 102. When children seek work elsewhere, family die or move away, friends
disappear because of death or moving to be near their own families, many are
left here alone.
SCOPE does all we can. We provide many
services to meet our seniors needs so we can become a one stop source of helping to
keep older adults happy in this community. (USA census figures are ten years
old, but it is my estimate that at least half the population in Trumbull County
is over 50 years old facing either forced retirement or living out life in place
on memories and the possibilities provided by SCOPE. The fastest growing
segment in the population in Trumbull County is those 80 plus years old.
We are family for many, from the homebound
welcoming a nurse or personal care aide, help around the house, to those making new friends over lunch
or a dance, or a lecture on semi-precious stones.
